We, Julie and Ferdinand are the owners of Cakalang Resort and will do everything to make your stay a memorable experience. We speak English, Bahasa Indonesia, Nederlands and Deutch. You will also be supported by our small team of staff, all dedicated to making your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
The name Cakalang is the local name for the skip-jack tuna. This is one of the most favorite fish for fishing and consumption in this area. On Bunaken next to tourism, fishing is still one of the main sources for living. Cakalang is not a reef fish.
We would be happy to arrange a boat for you that will take you directly to our resort. This is the quickest and easiest way to reach us. You will depart from Mangrove Park Bahowo, which is just outside Manado and easily accessible by taxi from either the airport or Manado city. We can arrange the taxi for you if you like that. When you arrive in Bahowo, a small boat will be waiting for you at the pier. Depending on the tide, you may need to walk the length of the pier to reach the boat. It will drop you right on the beach, just in front of the resort. However, depending on the tide, you might get your feet a little wet. The staff will be there to assist you with your luggage, which will stay dry no matter the tide!
Do you prefer to arrange the transport yourself? No problem! When you arrive in Manado, you need to go to the "Public boat pier to Bunaken". They leave every day between two and four in the afternoon, except on Sundays and holydays. The actual time depends on the tides. A trip to the island by public boat costs Rp. 50.000 per person and takes about an hour. Soon as you arrive in Bunaken you walk to the church and then keep walking North. After about 1 km you will find us at the right side of the road. There is a sign "Cakalang" there follow the jungle path, after about 30 meters you arrived. If you contact us before, then we can pick you up from the place where the boat arrives, this service is free of charge. When you leave the public boot be aware you can get wet feet, so it’s best to wear sandals and short trousers.
